Laser stapedotomy is a well-established surgical technique for treating conductive hearing loss due to otosclerosis. The procedure creates a tiny opening in the stapes (the smallest bone in the human body) in which to secure a prosthetic. The CO2 laser allows the surgeon to create very small, precisely placed holes without increasing the temperature of the inner ear fluid by more than one degree, making this an extremely safe surgical solution. The hole diameter can be predetermined according to the prosthesis diameter. Treatment can be completed in a single office visit using anesthesia.

The precision and power of the SurgiTouch flashscanner and AcuSpot micromanipulator allow the laser surgeon to create the small holes with a single pulse.

When stapedotomy is selected from the SurgiTouch preprogrammed procedures, the system automatically sets and displays the laser parameters recommended for that procedure. Any parameters may then be adjusted as deemed necessary. Beyond simplicity of operation, the SurgiTouch flashscanner yields good clinical results through the use of the patented microprocessor-controlled technology. A highly focused CO2 laser beam is scanned and delivered to the treatment site so rapidly that the tissue is vaporized without thermal transfer to surrounding structures.

Lumenis recommends using the AcuSpot micromanipulator and the SurgiTouch flashscanner to ensure precision. The AcuSpot micromanipulator works with an assortment of operating microscopes and can also be configured for various working distances.

Each micromanipulator is factory calibrated to match your microscope and working distance. This attention to detail ensures proper spot size selection and controlled delivery of laser energy.
