LAUP |

Laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) is an office procedure for treatment of snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome and mild obstructive sleep apnea with excellent long-term (over five years) follow-up results published in leading professional journals. Snoring is eliminated in most patients*. Studies have shown LAUP to have an 85-90 percent success rate, and almost all patients experience symptom improvement. *Reference provided in publications. The combination of the Oral Pharyngeal Delivery Handpieces and the SurgiTouch scanning technology provides the ENT surgeon with the control and accuracy needed for a successful LAUP procedure. When LAUP is selected from the SurgiTouch preprogrammed procedures, the system automatically sets and displays the laser parameters recommended for that procedure. Any parameters may then be further adjusted as deemed necessary. Beyond simplicity of operation, SurgiTouch yields enhanced clinical results through the use of a patented microprocessor-controlled scanning technology. A highly focused CO2 laser beam is scanned and delivered to the treatment site through the handpiece so rapidly that the tissue is vaporized without thermal transfer to surrounding structures. Uniform, layer-by-layer tissue ablation with minimal necrosis and excellent visual control is thus achieved. The handpiece delivery system's built-in smoke evacuation system combined with Lumenis' proprietary scanning technology virtually eliminates carbonization of the tissue during the procedure. |
