Laser treatment of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) achieves both ablative and excisional therapy. Unlike other conventional methods, lasers are easily adjusted to the size of the lesion to minimize the amount of disrupted surrounding healthy tissue. This approach allows the physician to destroy the entire lesion and the entire transformation zone, which may harbor CIN in glandular crypts several mm below the surface. Laser technology is also well suited for treating very large lesions, and its precision for excisions allows a specimen to be preserved for subsequent biopsy. Both ablative and excisional CIN laser treatment can be performed in an office setting using local anesthesia.
